What I Have Learned about My Beauty Routine

Have you ever looked at old pictures and thought "what in the world was I thinking?". Sometimes those beauty trends got the best of me and unfortunately there is photographic evidence. Whether it was the hot pink lip gloss, navy blue smokey eye, or over concealed pimples... it did happen to me at some point in time. Luckily over the years I have learned a few things about skincare and doing my make up correctly. So, today I share with you what I have learned about my beauty routine over the years:

1. Learn how to rock what your momma gave you! It is amazing how a little accentuating and contouring can make a difference. I am a big fan of playing up my features whether it be rosy cheeks with blush or defined brows with a good brow pencil . Contouring makes all the difference because it helps to shape your face and give some dimension. Learning how to apply make up for your face shape is a valuable lesson my friends.

2. A good skincare routine makes all the difference! I started using Clinique's 3 Step back in February and my skin has never looked, or felt, so good. It's amazing how a quality skin care routine can make a difference, and now my makeup routine is much more simplified with blemish free skin. (Clinique 3 Step Review)

3. Less is more! I used to be a big fan over doing my makeup, especially for every day wear. Over the years I have tried to soften my look and it makes such a difference. It's amazing what a little bit of mascara, blush, and tinted moisturizer can do.

4.  Who knew you were supposed to wash those makeup brushes and sponges? Because this girl certainly did not. It's amazing how much better my makeup brushes and sponges look after a simple lather and rinse with Johnson's Baby Shampoo. Not only does the application look much better but so does my skin because those dirty brushes can cause your skin to break out.

5. The Miracle Complexion Sponge is my go-to in the make up drawer. I never thought that a makeup tool would change my makeup routine, but it has! I use this sponge for my foundation, concealer, and contouring stick because it makes everything blend flawlessly. For only $6.99 it is worth every penny and can be washed to last longer.

6. Finding a good beauty counter and consultant makes all the difference. I am a huge fan of Clinique and finding the right consultant at their beauty counter has made a big difference. It is nice to be able to ask an expert questions or their opinion whether it be skincare or makeup related. Recently I learned that lipsticks with blue undertones is the best compliment to my skin coloring and to help teeth look whiter.

7. Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen! As much as I love a tan I know that it is only turning those freckles into sunspots and changing those worry lines into wrinkles. I always make sure to apply sunscreen every day or wear foundation with at least SPF 15 in it. Trust me you will thank yourself in 15 years!

What are some of your favorite beauty lessons or tips & tricks? I would love to hear in the comments because I am always looking for new tips.

  1. I am in LOVE with Clinique's chubby stick blush!!!! It is the best! For special occasions I like to jazz it up with falae eyelashes! I was so scared to try them but I was in a wedding and a girl showed me how to apply and I was super surprised at how easy it was! Removal is just as easy!
