Embracing Imperfection

"You don't inspire others by being perfect. You inspire them by how you deal with your imperfections." - Unknown

Recently at church a guest minister spoke  about trying to being perfect and how he was always striving for perfection. His constant seek for perfection started effecting him personally because he wasn't being true to himself.  This sermon was definitely hitting home and not in a Jesus way but a "this is has Megan written all over it" way.

I am your typical Type A personality and I am constantly striving for perfection even though I am far from perfect. Over the years I have become more comfortable with my un-perfect self and accepting these imperfections. To be honest I have learned it is easier to embrace my imperfections, which include being extreme Type A, so when I saw the quote at the top it made me smile. Let's be honest and just state the obvious- no one is perfect! It really is the imperfections in people that give people character and define who we are. So, I did a little soul searching and thought about my imperfections that define me. Here is what I think sums me up in a short little list:

1. I have a horrible habit of making up words when I can't find the right words.
2. I am an avid nail biter because of either anxiety or boredom.
3. I am extremely stubborn.
4. And a little bossy.
5. I am a clean freak! Thank goodness for house cleaners.
6. I can' stand being late. If I am not 5 minutes early then I am 5 minutes late.
7. I am a total shopaholic- sorry hubby!
8. I love to talk.. and talk... and talk.
9. I can't handle silence.
10. I despise not having a plan, so I am in constant planning/ cruise director mode.

In short I am a little bossy, and a tad bit chatty, chick who loves to eat! It only took me about 27 years to embrace these imperfections, but luckily I have a husband, family, and friends who love me despite these. Thank the heavens for these people to!

  1. Love that quote. I like to think of myself as perfectly imperfect. I definitely have a long list of "quirks" myself. :)
