The 101 on How to Be a Morning Person

I am a morning lover! My mornings are precious little gems because they are so quiet but so productive. As soon as my alarm clock goes off  I am up and at it. I am a creature of habit and my mornings consist of the same routine. I think this routine is what makes me such a peppy little morning person. So to help out with all those groggy morning loathers here is my routine and every day tips to becoming a morning person:

1. Go to bed earlier! I know this may sound easy but seriously make yourself a bed time. During the weekdays I go to bed every night at 10PM. This helps you get a good night's rest so that you wake up feeling refreshed and energized. Not to mention you have an internal clock that gets used to this routine so it helps with that morning wake up call.

2. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and in my book a cup of coffee is even more important. No one wants to be around a "hangry" person. A little tip is our coffee maker is on a programmed start so the smell alone will get you excited and moving! I also eat Greek Yogurt in the morning because I can eat it while getting ready and the protein fills me up.

3. Do NOT hit that snooze button. The snooze button is the worse because you just keep dozing off. I promise if you just go ahead and get up you will feel so much better. So for all of you with the 4 different alarms on your iPhone (cough, cough my husband) you are not helping your morning self! Here is the scientific proof to prove it.

4. Get your workout on! Early morning exercise helps with our mid-morning burst of energy. It is proven that after exercising you have higher levels of adrenaline which helps you throughout the entire morning. Remember as Elle Woods once said, " Exercise gives you endorphin. Endorphins makes you happy." As an added tip, those who work out in the morning are proven to burn more calories throughout the day and lose more weight.

5. Let the sunlight in! If the sunshine is starting to come in through your windows your internal clock knows to start waking up. The sunshine naturally gives us a little boost of happiness helping with those morning wake up calls.

6. Prep the night before! There is nothing worse than a stressful morning of running out the door. Before I go to bed I always set our coffee maker, lay out my workout clothes, pick out my work clothes, put my purse by the door, etc.. It only takes about 10 minutes the night before but helps save quite the headache the next morning.

I know the morning hours are not for everyone but hopefully these little tips help. The older I get the more I appreciate a productive morning, even on the weekends. Plus it helps that my partner in crime Bo dog is an early riser, so if all else fails maybe a pup will do the trick!

  1. I love this list. I'm a night owl, and thus hate mornings. I'm an offender of hitting snooze multiple times. One of my goals for this coming year is to focus on self-improvement and one potential sub category of that is embracing mornings. I blogged about it today. ;)
