Megan's Detox for Thanksgiving

Real Girl's Detox for Thanksgiving

So what you doubled up on homemade mac n' cheese and ate gravy by the spoonful? They made stretchy pants for Thanksgiving, duh. I mean, seriously, the origins of the holiday date back to the Pilgrims and the celebration of their harvest (aka food). Any holiday made to be centered around food is okay in my books. Tradition has it that at least 8 sticks of butter should be used that day and the average calorie intake should be around... well I'd rather not say.

After eating all that dressing and/or stuffing and pumpkin pie you feel, well rather large. That's okay! Thanksgiving no-no's include dieting and low calorie recipes. So what do you do now that you feel like the stuffed turkey? Well, let me share my detox for Thanksgiving:

1. Take a walk. Seriously, bundle up with the family and go for a little walk around the neighborhood. This also gives you a good excuse to throw on your leggings and make room for that second slice of pie.

2. Drink some lemon water. All that caloric intake can make you feel a little bloated, The lemon water helps to detox and help everything get moving, if you know what I mean.

3. Only go back for seconds that include vegetables or white meat. So what that sweet potato casserole has candied pecans? It's still healthy for you in my book. On a more serious note, try using the turkey's white meat on salad as left overs. A healthy, protein packed salad will do the body good.

4. Go Black Friday shopping. If you really want to burn some calories then participate in this event!  I will never forget the sweat I worked up when fighting through a crazed pile of women over $49 boots. Clearly, I am still scarred.

5. Take a nap! So this really does nothing to burn calories or get moving, but it does have physical and psychological benefits. As a lover of naps, I can tell you that it has all types of healing benefits, like relaxation and rejuvenation (aka R&R).

I hope everyone has a fabulous Thanksgiving and if you have more tips, share them in the comments below!
