Pink, Gold & All Grown Up : Katie's Pink Ikat Bedroom

Just when I thought my days of girly decorating were at a stall my sister called. She was moving into her first apartment and all she wanted was a pink bedroom. Woo hoo because what girl doesn't love pink? This apartment was literally a blank slate full of white walls, white doors, beige tile and white trim. We had to find a way to combat this white and pink was our answer.

Let me be the first to say a google search of pink bedrooms was no help. Unfortunately the results included lots of Barbie and Disney princesses. We definitely had to be creative and use my favorite resources- Pinterest and Home Goods. With a little bit of creativity and DIY we put together quite the pink room. We still have a few pieces to find but this blank slate could not have turned out better.

The bed is essentially the most important piece of any bedroom, so we knew this would be our statement piece. We went with an upholstered headboard to get the pink we were looking for. Both of us fell in love with this fabric as soon as we saw it. It was a little more expensive for a custom, upholstered headboard but it was too perfect! We were able to use a cream linen duvet and a handful of throw pillows to create the perfect bed. A gold tray with fresh flowers and a Voluspa candle were just the cherries on top!

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall! What girl doesn't need an antique cream mirror to get ready in? We found this mirror at Hobby Lobby but here is a similar one. The hooks next to the mirror help to hang and showcase her favorite accessories.

There is no better way to add color than with a pink desk and a gallery wall. My sister and I took an old laminate desk I had and painted it. We followed LoveLiveDIY's tutorial and knocked it out in no time. Our gallery wall began when we scoured Home Goods to collect frames. To add an extra pop of color we matted the frames with scrapbook paper. We also used an empty frame to make a string of pictures with fun tassels. Canvases are an inexpensive way to add some variety. My sister sent me this quote to paint and the crown is a fun reference to her sorority.

My sister and I had so much fun decorating her room together. I must say that I am a little inspired after this project but I am not sure that T will be okay with pink ikat in our house. In the meantime I will enjoy Katie's pink room and keep dreaming for one myself. If you have any questions about anything you see let me know!
