Upping my H2O- How to Drink More Water!

Alright y'all it is officially HOT outside! This weekend was in the upper 90's and I was drinking water like a camel. Okay the camel part may be a bit over dramatic, but I am drinking more water than usual just not the recommend amount. The old rule is 8 glasses of water a day which is a lot, but that may not be enough. I recently learned a new formula to follow- your weight divided in half equals the total ounces you should drink, but add 8 ounces for every 30 minutes of working out. So on a normal day I would need to drink over 80 ounces of water! Here is the breakdown -  my weight divided in half (130/2) + 1 hour of working out (8+8)= 81 ounces.

You are probably thinking that every 20 minutes I visit the ladies room, but I don't drink 80 ounces of water. Sorry to disappoint, but I am on a mission to start! There are all types of benefits to drinking water from weight loss to healthy skin to detox to curing digestive problems. Do a little Google search and you will be inspired to increase your water intake. If you are looking for a quick link this lady drank a gallon of water a day. Needless to say I was totally motivated by her, although a gallon a day may be something I have to work up to.

While I love some H2O I have to mix it up and make sure that I pack enough since I am not always by a water fountain. Also, I have to make sure that I am measuring my water throughout the day to help motivate me. It's easy to "guess-timate" your water intake and I usually round up... so I am going to start a routine and measurement system. So below I am sharing my helpful tips to upping my H2O:

1. Start the day with a big glass of water! Before taking a sip of my coffee I am going to make myself drink at least 16 ounces of water. This should follow my workout so it'll be pretty refreshing, plus bribery for coffee always works.

2. H2O is refreshing but a little flavorless. So let's mix it up! Infusing water is the best, and easiest, way to do this. The steps include dropping your fruit right into your glass or using a Fruit Infusion Pitcher - #easy. T and I love our fruit infusion pitcher and it is so simple to throw together! The fruit usually last for about 3-4 days, so you can keep refilling it with water. I just need to keep mine filled with yummy fruits.

3. Go ahead and spice up your ice cubes. I found this genius idea on Pinterest and instantly fell in love! I just cut up some mint, threw a few slivers in each ice cube tray and poured some lime juice on top. Voila flavored ice cubes! I put a few of these into my water and mm mm yum. Plus this is a great way to use fresh mint and limes before they go bad.

4. Okay, so this may be the weirdest tip but I suggest drinking through a straw. I mean hello frozen margarita with the jumbo straw? We have all been there with brain freeze or too many margaritas. Either way I keep straws close by because I know that I drink much faster. It's easier for me to drink through a straw, especially when I am driving, so in the world of Megan it makes sense.

5. It is no secret my love for green tea. The best part is it counts towards my water intake! If I need an afternoon pick me up I always go for Green Tea with Pomegranate. At night I am obsessed with Sleepytime Green Tea. I always make a big cup of it before going to bed and not to mention it is 16 ounces toward my recommended 80 ounces.

6. It's all about holding myself accountable and measuring my H2O intake, My goal is 16 ounces in the morning, 3 glasses of 16 ounces throughout the day and 1 cup of tea at night. Sounds pretty easy when I type it out here for you all.

So as the temperatures heat up the water gulping begins! I am on a mission to get my 80 ounces of H2O in and I hope this helps everyone else looking to do the same.  Do you have any tips on getting your recommended water intake? I would love to hear in the comments below.
